Photo-a-day #55: February 24, 2014 - Bitcoin Mining

Photo-a-day #55: February 24, 2014 - Bitcoin Mining

Camera used: Canon 5D MKIII

I've been messing around with Bitcoins for around 8 months and have seen some ups and downs. Today would be one of those down days... as Mt. Gox went BOOM, and the future of some of my funds is definitely in question (as in, probably gone). Things move on though...

This is part of a mining rig setup that I've had running for the last few months. I'm hoping in a number of years I'll look back at this picture fondly, from some exotic place spending my Bitcoins... though likely I'll just have a high electricity bill and a bunch of computer power supplies left over for sale :/

For the nerds, this 4-cube setup hashes at around 140Gh/s, though 2 of these cubes I am managing for another party. It takes a lot of juice... over 1200W. I also have another 18Gh/s in my server rack that are lower-power and USB based. It's been fun, but volatile.
